BUILD YOUR EMAIL LIST (part 2)

INTRODUCTION

So far in this course, we’ve covered the following:

  • Choosing a focus for your business
  • Building your primary business platform
  • Creating your lead magnet

Now you’re going to use your lead magnet to build your email list

And I’m going to take you through a very specific step-by-step process for how to do that.

STEP BY STEP PROCESS FOR BUILDING YOUR EMAIL LIST

Now let’s talk about the process for building your email list. 

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Create a Landing Page for Your Lead Magnet
  2. Connect a Tool to Collect Email Addresses
  3. Set up A Tool for Sending Your Lead Magnet
  4. Drive Traffic to Your Landing Page

STEP 1: CREATE A LANDING PAGE FOR YOUR LEAD MAGNET

Once you have your lead magnet created, you want to place sign-up forms all over your website (blog posts, home page, etc).

But most importantly, you want to create a landing page whose sole purpose is for people to sign up for your lead magnet.

This should be a very simple page that includes the following:

  • A short headline, about 5-15 words
  • A few lines of text describing the lead magnet, what value it offers, and who it’s for
  • A photo of what you’re giving away (if applicable)
  • A form where people can enter their email and any other information you want (e.g., name)
    That’s it!

You want to make this page as simple as possible. 

BTW, while there is specialized landing page software that you can use to create your landing page, I recommend that you use the same tool that you used to create your website.

So for example, if you used Elementor (affiliate link) to create your website (as I recommended in step 2 of this course), just use Elementor to create your landing page.

STEP 2: CONNECT A TOOL TO COLLECT EMAIL ADDRESSES

Next, you will need a tool that you can use to collect email addresses. A tool that you will obviously integrate into your landing page.

If you’re using Elementor, then you can use the Elementor popup builder to create a form or a popup to collect email addresses on your landing page.

If you’re not using Elementor, then the tool that I recommend is Convertful. Convertul has a free version that you can use when you’re first starting out and paid plans start at just $9 per month.

BTW, I suggest asking for the minimal amount of information as possible in exchange for your lead magnet. For example, I only ask for first name and email address, nothing else. 

If you ask for too much information, then you’ll reduce the number of people who sign up for your lead magnet. And if there are fewer people on your email list, then you have fewer people that you can sell your products or services to. 

STEP 3: SET UP A TOOL FOR SENDING YOUR LEAD MAGNET

Next you’ll need a tool to send your lead magnet to your subscribers. You’ll need to connect the tool from Step 2 with this tool so that you can send your lead magnet. 

You’ll want to set this up to send your lead magnet automatically to anyone who subscribes. You also want to send it immediately. You definitely do not want to make people wait to receive your lead magnet.

For those who are just starting out, the tool that I recommend is MailerLite – which is use to send my lead magnet and my other emails. 

If you need to do more advanced marketing for your business, then ActiveCampaign (affiliate link) is a tool that I’ve used in the past and one that I also recommend. 

STEP 4: DRIVE TRAFFIC TO YOUR LANDING PAGE

Now you need to drive traffic to your landing page.

The reason you want to do this is simple: if you have a quality lead magnet, about 50% of the people who visit your landing page will subscribe in order to receive it.

On the other hand, only about 1-3% of people who visit your blog pages will sign up for that same lead magnet. (on your home page it will be 3-5%).

So your best bet for building your email list is to drive traffic to your landing page.

There are a variety of ways that you can do this:
1) Write guest posts for other blogs
2) Be a guest on podcasts
3) Write responses to questions on Quora
4) Create videos on YouTube

These are just a few ideas. Whatever method(s) you choose, make sure that you include a link to your landing page.  For example. if you write guest posts, make sure to have a link in your bio that goes to your landing page. Or if you write answers to questions on Quora, make sure to include a link to your landing page in your answer. 

The basic idea is that you need to leverage traffic from bigger sites in order to drive traffic back to your landing page. That is the best and quickest way to build your email list.

BTW, you’ll need to do this over and over again to continue driving traffic to your landing page and continue getting new email subscribers.
